A-Rod Speaks Up On Retiring Clemente’s #21

Bronx, NY – Kudos to Alex Rodríguez for speaking up yesterday for retiring Roberto Clemente’s #21.

It was fitting that Alex made his statement at the Roberto Clemente State Park in the South Bronx that was having a ceremony to introduce a joint efforts by MLB, the Players Association and the state to establish a baseball academy and help rebuild the baseball fields at the park.

Kudos also go out to MLBPA representative Omar Minaya who also stated his support for retiring #21 to the press. Mr. Minaya has been a strong supporter since the movement began in 2006 when Latino Sports launched the effort at the All-Star weekend in Pittsburgh.

The fact that the commissioner of baseball, Rob Manfred was one of the guests present was symbolic as he got to hear a baseball star state what many have been saying for years, “Retire Roberto Clemente’s # 21.”
