Havana (October 30, 2004) - Cuba’s national soccer team will participate in its third World Championship to be held in Taipei China November 21 to December 5, 2004.

The Cubans made it to the tournament during the pre-world tournament that took place in Costa Rica where they came in second place. This new trip to participate in a World Soccer tournament is the third consecutive time for the Cubans and ties the USA record.

The USA, with its new classification will have had four since they participated in the World Games in 1989, 1992 and 1996. In 1989 in Holland, they reached bronze and in 1992 in Hong Kong, they won silver.

For this new tournament, the Cuban national team fortified themselves with six new players of which the total 14-team members will be selected to make the trip. Strong workouts will be scheduled this week at the Cerro Pelado complex under the leadership of Clemente Reinoso and the physical trainer Eduardo Valdés, unfortunately, there is a scarce amount of international pre-games.

However, for three years the Cuban team have not had any pre-games with international caliber teams prior to participating in Guatemala in 2000 and very recently in the pre-world games in Costa Rica and the young men learned how to cope and played well.

Placed in group D along with Argentina, Champions of the Commenbol, Iran, five times top team in Asia and Portugal, bronze in the last World Games the Cubans will have to sweat their jerseys to reach their goal. “We are going to China to win our best results in these games,” stated Agustin Campuzano, the person responsible for the Cuban Soccer Association to Futcuba.

Up to the present Cuba has not won in six World Game’s and came in last place in Spain in 1996 and Guatemala in 2000.

La Habana - La selección nacional de fútbol sala de Cuba participará en su tercer Campeonato del Mundo de la especialidad, el cual se efectuará en Taipei de China entre el 21 de noviembre y el 5 de diciembre.

Los cubanos lograron su boleto durante el PRE-mundial de julio efectuado en Costa Rica cuando ocuparon la segunda plaza tras el representativo de Estados Unidos que obtuvo el otro cupo en juego. Este nuevo pasaje a un mundial de fútbol sala es el tercero que logran los cubanos, todos de manera consecutiva, empatando una marca de los norteamericanos.

Los Estados Unidos con su nueva clasificación tendrán cuatro asistencias a eventos de este tipo pues concurrieron a los mundiales de 1989, 1992 y 1996. En 1989 en Holanda alcanzaron bronce y en 1992 en Hong Kong plata.

Para el nuevo reto los criollos fortalecieron la PRE-selección nacional con seis nuevos jugadores de donde saldrán los catorce que harán el viaje. Fuertes sesiones de entrenamiento en mañana y tarde en el Cerro Pelado efectúan los nacionales bajo el mando de Clemente Reinoso y el preparador físico Eduardo Valdés ante la escasez de partidos internacionales.

Pero por tres años ausencia total de fogueo ante equipos foráneos tuvieron los cubanos tras participar en la cita del orbe de Guatemala 2000 y muy poco para enfrentar el PRE-mundial de Costa Rica y los muchachos supieron crecerse.

Ubicados en el grupo D, llave de la muerte, junto con Argentina, campeón de la Commenbol, Irán, cinco veces titular de Asia y Portugal, bronce en la pasada reunión mundial los cubanos tendrán que sudar la camiseta para alcanzar su propósito. “Vamos a Taipei de China a buscar nuestro mejor resultado en estas lides”, dijo escuetamente pero con firmeza y seguridad a Futcuba, Agustín Campuzano, Responsable nacional de esta actividad en la Asociación de Fútbol de Cuba.

Hasta el presente Cuba no logró victorias en seis partidos mundialistas y ha sido última posición tanto en España 1996 como Guatemala 2000.
