NEW YORK – LeBron James will now be known as “LeFraud James,” and this has nothing to do with the fact that he didn’t sign with the New York Knicks or the New Jersey Nets.

The minute he announced that he would hold his press conference in Connecticut, everyone knew he would not be returning to Cleveland, his hometown and the only team he’s played with since coming out of high school.

The only question was would he sign with Miami or Chicago. With the Bulls signing Carlos Boozer, it appeared the pendulum had swung in favor of the team he idolized as a kid.

But no, “LeFraud” took the easy way out by signing with Miami and Dwayne Wade to go along with Chris “Dreadless” Bosh.

In going to Miami, “LeFraud” contradicted everything he has been saying since he came into the league.

The two-time league MVP, who led his team to the NBA Finals (only to get swept by San Antonio) made it known on several occasions that he wanted not only to win a championship but wanted to be mentioned in the same breath as Magic, Larry, Michael and Kobe.

He wanted to play on a team that would give the opportunity to win multiple rings while being the leader those guys were.

While he may end up winning several rings, he’ll do it with the help of a player many feel is the second best player in the league today, Dwayne Wade.

James could have and should have signed with the Bulls. Aside from the Boozer acquisition, they have up-and-coming star Derrick Rose and ballhound Joakim Noah. New head coach Tom Thibedou, the defensive guru devised the plan to shut down “LeFraud” in the Boston series, surely would have come up with a plan to neutralize Wade. It would have set up a rivalry between the Heat and the Bulls for years to come.

In the end, it would have made the Eastern Conference much more interesting come play-off time.

We all know the NBA regular season amounts to pretty much nothing. It’s all about the playoffs. Who wants to see first round series end in four or five games. Look at the competition in the Western Conference. Any team from one through eight can win. With “LeFraud” now with Miami it lends to a dominating team that can roll through the playoffs.

James has always wanted to be the next Michael Jordan. He has accomplished things to this point that no other player has. He put himself on the runway to separate himself from the NBA greats. Signing with Wade and the Heat says, I may not be the King I’ve been built up to be.

James certainly had the right to sign with any team he wanted to. In his mind, signing with the Heat gives him the best chance to win multiple rings. He will go down as just another player getting the bling.

Wade will always be known as THE main reason the Heat won a championship. James will never be known as that person no matter how many rings they win. He had the option to put himself in that position and live out the fantasy of being the next Michael.

We’ll never know. “LeFraud” took the easy way out!
