on

It was a big week for Manny and Miguel.

Boston Red Sox outfielder Manny Ramirez and Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera have been named the Bank of America Presents the American League Co-Players of the Week for the period ending April 20th.

Bank of America, the Official Bank of Major League Baseball, is the presenting sponsor of the American League and National League Player of the Week Awards, which reflect the company's long-standing tradition of recognizing achievements that inspire us all to seize opportunities to perform at our very best.

Last week, Ramirez hit .417 (10-24) with four home runs and eight RBI. The 11-time A.L. All-Star racked up 23 total bases, a .958 slugging percentage, a double and seven runs scored. At Cleveland's Progressive Field on April 14th, Manny smashed a go-ahead, three-run homer in the top of the ninth inning of Boston's 6-4 win. On April 17th at New York, the left fielder went 3-for-5 with two home runs, three RBI and three runs scored. On the season, Ramirez is batting .338 with six home runs and a Major League-high 20 RBI. He is four home runs shy of becoming the 24th member of the 500 home run club. This marks the 16th career weekly award honor for Ramirez.

Cabrera hit .429 (12-28) with four doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI. The 25-year-old third baseman compiled 22 total bases, along with a .786 slugging percentage and seven runs scored. On April 16th at Cleveland, Cabrera went 4-for-6 with a home run, five RBI, and two runs scored. The four-time N.L. All-Star is hitting .279 with three home runs and 13 RBI on the season. This marks Miguel's fifth career weekly award and his first in the American League.

Others considered were Chicago White Sox designated hitter Jim Thome (.318, .818 SLG, 2 2B, 3 HR, 10 RBI), New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter (.387, .516 SLG, 2 2B, 1 3B, 10 RBI) and Ramirez's Red Sox teammate Kevin Youkilis (.433, .667 SLG, 4 2B, 1 HR, 4 RBI).
