Cangrejeros New Champs In Puerto Rican Baseball


The Santurce Crabbers scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to complete a dramatic 5-3 comeback win over the Mayaguez Indians to win the national championship of the Puerto Rican Winter League.

A single by, Jorge Padilla with bases loaded and the game tied 3-3 against the Indians’ closer, Fernando Cabrera, was the decisive winning hit before more than 10,000 spectators at the Municipal Hiram Bithorn Stadium in Hato Rey.

Santurce, has not reached a final championship since they were the runner-up in 2002. This is their thirteenth crown in franchise history and first since 2000, when they also managed the last title in Puerto Rico in the Caribbean Series held in Dominican Republic.
