Here’s this week’s edition of LatinoSports.com ongoing series of questions with IZOD IndyCar race driver E.J. Viso. Currently ranked 12th  overall, the 28-year-old Viso is now in his sixth IZOD IndyCar season and first with Andretti Autosport.

Along with asking him questions about the races, we’ve also been able to have a better understanding of the world of auto racing. You can follow Viso on twitter at @EJVISO.

1. What are your thoughts about your last race?

I believe that the last race was positive in general.

The performance we had since the first practices was really outstanding, and it’s definitely been a progress since the first race of the championship. Just being in the front row in qualifying and starting the race in that position, it means a lot to me and my crew.

We are all pretty new to the team and we are still working together to get to know each other and keep a tight, efficient way of working. So far, we’ve been progressing really rapidly and I believe that we are all excited for what’s coming next.

Finishing in the sixth position in Brazil, it means a lot even if we believe that it wasn’t the position we thought we could finish. I think a podium was very, very possible.

2. When you’re not driving, how do you keep your reflexes sharp?

I’m a very active person. I normally do plenty of physical things during the day. I like jet skiing, skydiving, different sports where precision, adrenaline, risk are involved. I believe that as long as you keep your body and mind active in those ways, your reflexes will be sharp.

3. How hot does it get inside the car when you’re racing?

Actually it gets very, very hot. We wear the fireproof suits – they’re very hot and you sweat so much. You could lose about five pounds a race. That’s what makes it very difficult in many ways – not only mentally, but physically it’s very draining.

4. During a race, have you ever cramped up? If so, how do you loosen up?

Luckily I’ve never cramped up. I believe cramps are a mix of not enough hydration and not enough exercise. So I think I stay on top of both of those…hopefully I never get cramps.

5. What race suit and helmet brand do you wear? How many do you own?

I’ve been wearing Sparco for a long time. I like them a lot and believe they are one of the best out there; they’ve been a great partner for me in my career. Regarding my helmet, I wear Arai. I do love those helmets – they’ve saved my life more than once, and I’m pretty sure I’ll continue to use them! I believe I own over 70 helmets.
