New York – Last Wednesday, February 27, 2013, ESPN Deportes Radio Nueva York 1050 AMhosted a Salsa Party at Iguana on West 54th Street. With Salsa music and dancing circulating throughout the room, I had a pleasant time interacting with many of their Talent.

Following Wednesday evening’s event, I am convinced that ESPN Deportes Nueva York is definitely heading in the right direction. A few weeks, I wrote an article titled, “Hablando Spanglish with ESPN Deportes.” In that article, I illustrated my experience with the staff and how I admired the direction they’re going.

With 4.8 million Latinos in New York, ESPN Deportes Radio Nueva York 1050 AM has the potential of being a success. In their commitment to provide around-the-clock sports online coverage, they’ve committed to broadcast the NY Jets, NY Mets, NY Red Bulls, NY Knicks, Dominican baseball, CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers, CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers, Liga MX, U.S. National Team friendlies, MLB and MLS.

The recent actions of ESPN Deportes further justifies what we at Latino Sports knew all along for the past 24-years, the Latino market will grow to the point where there’s a global demand for it. While ESPN Deportes is clearly the more recognized name worldwide, Latino Sports has a history where we were already catering to the Spanglish-speaking audience.

Through our creativity and strategy, we created our own platform that in 2013 is stronger than ever. I truly commend the recent actions of ESPN Deportes because it’ll create more opportunities for Spanglish-speaking Latinos.

So if ESPN Deportes is the “Brass Ring” for those interested in pursuing a career in sports, then LatinoSports;com will be a platform to help talent achieve their goals. By understanding our position as a volunteer-based DIY online publication, we’re being honest with our audience and anyone who wishes to join us in the future.

My mentor and friend, Miguel Algarin, the founder of the Nuyorican Poets Cafe explained to me years ago that if you’re a true Writer, it doesn’t matter who you write for because talent is talent and it will be discovered.

However in order to be recognized by a global giant like ESPN, then we must invest some of our time supporting ESPN Deportes and their staff. The reality is that they need an audience. Like any movement, our support will ensure everyone that ESPN Deportes will remain for many years to come.
