Eyes On Rising Young Latina Star at Australian Open

Break’s over. There will be no more partying, parandas, or lechón for Puerto Rican Monica Puig Marchán already on the other side of the world, specifically in Australia, where she officially will begin her 2014 competitive tennis season in the Australian Open.

Puig arrived last Saturday to the land of the Kiwis after a 34-hour trip, as she posted on her social network accounts. For many, a move of this magnitude would have been tedious, but not for this 20 year old rising Boricua tennis star, who was already eager to resume her routine of travelling and tennis matches.

“I’m really happy that the new season is almost here. Although it was a long trip, I am eager to begin and do well with this new campaign that is less than a week away, “Puig said in a written statement sent to the Puerto Rican daily, Primera Hora.

Puig is one of the first young Latin American tennis players to achieve world status as she is presently ranked 57th by the World Tennis Association (WTA).

We will continue to keep track of this developing young Boricua and wish her all the success in her upcoming matches in the land down under where she says she feels comfortable because it reminds her of her native Puerto Rico.
