21 Days of Clemente Dec. 10th to dec, 31, 2009

Bronx, New York- On Thursday, December 10th, 2009, Latino Sports Ventures, Inc. will unveil its 9th annual “21 Days of Clemente” symposiums honoring Roberto Clemente, the great baseball player and humanitarian who died tragically 37 years ago in a plane crash delivering emergency relief to Nicaragua in 1972.

The "21 Days of Clemente" is much more than an event to honor Clemente, it is an event to remember those that gave so much and the way that we live our lives. The fact that Latino Sports does this event every year in the middle of the most busiest month, December and the holiday season is a testament in itself.

December is usually a month of shopping and Xmas parties. To coordinate a month long event to involve students and adults is another testament to the vision and involvement in the work of Latino Sports in the South Bronx. "They diffinitely think out of the box and as a result provide quality events that are not just entertaining, but educational." stated Bob Sancho, VP of Community Relations, Bronx Lebanon Hospital, one of this years sponsors. "Latino Sports is a major factor in the community development process" he Continued.

The "21 Days of Clemente" invites every student from kindergarden to High School to participate by submitting any piece of art, poem, or composition. They are not looking for "Rembrants," but rather they want to motivate critical thinking in the students, thus any student can participate with, or without their schools participation. Every student that participates will recieve a certificate of appreciation from either the Bronx Borough President, Ruben Diaz, Jr., or Congressman José Serrano. Twenty one pieces will be selected by a panel of teachers, community & bussiness leaders and will be on display at Applebee's (Gateway Mall) window display from December 10th to December 31st, 2009 along with other Roberto Clemente collectibles.
