When A Game Is More Than A Game

on

Bronx, NY – Latino Sport organizes several events throughout the year like the LatinoMVP award luncheons the NYC Marathon Volunteer Music Stage, and film presentations supporting the Retire 21 Campaign. However, there is one end of summer event that has been taking place for the last 19 years that is probably the most fun event of all and that is the Celebrity Basketball Game & Family Day.

The event takes place at the same place every year, Orchard Beach basketball courts (AKA: Joe “Pops” Cruz Basketball courts) and always the next to last Sunday in August.

The event is dedicated to the “prevention of Obesity in children.” It features not just fun and games for kids and the entire family, but also it provides information on a healthy lifestyle and free medical screenings for the entire family.

The basketball games include, the annual Latino Sports vs. BronxNet TV game. This is a fun, yet competitive game between two sister media companies that bring out their employees, volunteers and interns to play each other in a spirit of competition. Both Latino Sports and BronxNet have been accused of “stacking the deck” by bringing in “ringers” who can help either organization take home the “Bragging Rights Trophy,” but that has become part of the fun to see what surprise each team will bring. This year Latino Sports will try and take the trophy back from BronxNet who won last year.

The second game is between the Puerto Rican Pro Legends Vs. The Harlem Pro Legends. Both teams have ex-professional players from the Puerto Rican Basketball League and from professional tournaments.

The final game is between any celebrity that happen to show and many major ones have like, Fat Joe, Magic Juan, Larry Harlow, Tito Puente Jr., Big Pun, La Bruja, Los Hermanos Moreno, Ivy Queens and Ray Sepulveda to name a few.

In addition to the fun basketball games there will be music and games for children and the entire family. Salsa Dance Classes and Zumba session will also be featured to help promote health and exercise.

The event begins at 11 AM to 4 PM

This event is sponsored by: Bronx Lebanon Hospital center, Famiglia Restaurants, Bronx Care, NY Mets, BronxNet and Delicioso Cuoquito.
