NEW YORK YANKEES NOTES

  • With today’s loss, the Yankees have been eliminated from postseason contention for the second straight season and just the third time in the last 20 seasons…the only other times since 1995 they failed to make the playoffs were in 2008 and ’13.
  • The Yankees lost their second straight game…are closing their regular season by playing 21 games in 20 days from 9/9-28 (are 8-9 thus far)…are still 6-3 in their last nine home games and 13-7 at Yankee Stadium since since 8/21…are 24-15 at home since the All-Star break.
  • The Yankees fell to 5-13 vs. the Orioles in 2014 (3-6 at Yankee Stadium)…have lost 11 of their last 14 games against Baltimore and 13 of their last 17.
  • The Yankees allowed 7H and 6ER in the fourth inning, tying their season highs in hits and runs allowed in an inning this season (first in both categories since the second inning on 6/23 at Toronto).
  • RHP Shane Greene (3.2IP, 7H, 6ER, 3BB, 5K) recorded the loss in his final start of the season…tied his career high in runs allowed (also 6ER in 2.2IP on 9/2 vs. Boston)…had combined to allow just 2ER total over his last three starts (9/7-18)…the Yankees went 7-3 in his final 10 starts (since 8/2).
  • The Yankees are now 37-23 in games started by rookie pitchers this season.
  • 3B Chase Headley (3-for-4) hit his second HR of the homestand (also on Tuesday)…has 6HR since joining the Yankees on 7/22, five of which have been hit at Yankee Stadium.
  • RF Eury Perez made his Yankees debut as an eighth-inning defensive replacement in RF (did not bat)…became the 58th player to appear in a game for the Yankees in 2014, further extending their franchise record for players used in a season.
  • DH Derek Jeter (0-for-4) had his seven-game hitting streak snapped…is batting .345 (10-for-29) with 4R, 3 doubles, 1HR and 6RBI in seven games on his final homestand.
  • Earlier today, RHP Chaz Roe was claimed off waivers by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
