Bronx, NY – On a beautiful and clear sky Sunday afternoon at Yankee Stadium, the New York Yankees defeated the Seattle Mariners by a final score of 10-1. Following their win, the Bronx Bombers are second in the AL East with a 70-59 record. Winners of two straight games, New York trails the Boston Red Sox by 2.5 games for the AL East lead.

For Boston, they’ve lost four straight games. With a 73-57 record, the Red Sox will be in town later this week for a four-game-winner-take-all-showdown against the Bronx Bombers. Even though the Yanks are the current American League Wild Card top dogs, a series win over Boston would be more beneficial to them down the road.

Getting back to Sunday’s game, the day after UFC Champion Conor McGregor lost via TKO in the 10th round to the now 50-0 boxer Floyd “Money” Mayweather, the Bronx Bombers weathered a slow start by Masahiro Tanaka as they rallied from a 1-0 deficit as they scored six runs to knock Seattle out of the game in the first inning. After a rough first inning, Tanaka settled in and pitched seven innings as he struck out 10 batters and won his 10th win of the season.

Outside of the Yankees six-run first inning, the offense’s 15-for-39 hitting performace led by Starlin Castro’s 4-for-4 performance and complimented by Seattle’s five error performance, the game’s highlight was watching Yanks manager Joe Girardi get ejected in the third inning for arguing with the umpires a the result of Segura’s slide to second base. For Girardi, this was his fifth ejection of the season.

After three games of a 10-game home stand, the Yankees are now 2-1. Next up for the Pinstripes is a three-game series against last season’s World Series runner-up, the Cleveland Indians. Following Cleveland, the Yanks face the Red Sox in a four-game series to wrap up their 10 game home stand. With that said, enjoy the rest of your Sunday!
