Mets Defeat D-backs, Interns Leave Citi Field

Flushing, NY – On Wednesday night, the New York Mets defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks by a final score of 4-2. Mets starting pitcher Chris Flexen pitched a career-high 6.0 innings and with the help of the bullpen trio of Jerry Blevins, Paul Sewald, and AJ Ramos, Flexen went on to win his third game of the season.

To be honest, Wednesday night’s Mets win was a slow-paced affair. With the exception of the players, it seemed that everyone else was lethargic as they coasted through the games. After 125 games of Mets baseball, the cheers, the food, and the clicking of the laptops in pressbox lacked energy. With this being the eighth game in a nine-game homestand, it’s safe to believe everyone involved are emotionally exhausted.

The Amazins current homestand as featured an abundance of disappointment as the Mets were swept in the Subway Series. In addition, several favorite players like Curtis Granderson and Rene Rivera were traded to teams contending for postseason action. Throw in the fact that the Mets have lost six out of eight games in this homestand, many are feeling shell shocked about a season once full of promise has now become a tragedy.

No matter how demoralizing it may feel to follow any team, there’s always good to be found. Sometimes, it’s within the players and organization. Other times, it’s from the fans and their passion. In the case of tonight, it’s in the form of the interns who spent their summer interning for the New York Mets.

Moments after the AJ Ramos earned his 23rd save of the season, the season was over for the interns. With their summer of baseball over, they’ll be returning back to their university for another year of academics. If they’ve made the most of their summer opportunity, come the first day of school, they’ll notice how much they’ve matured.

Who they truly become will be determined by the choices they make over time. Not just in college but in their life’s journey. No matter the path they take down the road, for tonight, they’ve just completed an Amazin’ summer. Tune In, Find Out, Always Believe…
