Red Bulls To Face D.C. United In The MLS Eastern Conference Semifinals

on

HARRISON, N.J. – The New York Red Bulls will face D.C. United in the Eastern Conference Semifinals of the Audi 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs, beginning with a match at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C., on Sunday, November 1.

Time for that match has not been announced. The series will be a rematch of last year’s Eastern Conference Semifinals, when the Red Bulls advanced on aggregate score, 3-2, by defeating D.C. 2-0 at Red Bull Arena before falling, 2-1, at RFK in the second leg.

This year’s matchup was set after D.C. advanced through the knockout round on Wednesday night with a 2-1 win over the New England Revolution. By virtue of the Montreal Impact defeating Toronto FC on Thursday night, the Red Bulls will face D.C., the lowest remaining seed in the Eastern Conference.

The teams will then square off at Red Bull Arena in the second leg of the conference semifinals on Sunday, November 8. Time for that match has also not been determined.

The Audi 2015 MLS Cup Playoff conference semifinal and conference final rounds consist of a two-match, home-and-home series, where a winner is determined by aggregate scoring.

In the event of a tie, the team with more away goals will advance. If the teams are tied on away goals, the second leg will go to a 30-minute overtime, followed by a penalty kick shootout if needed.

The Red Bulls avoided the knockout round and secured home field advantage by finishing atop the East with an 18-10-6 record. New York claimed the Supporters’ Shield last weekend in Chicago, guaranteeing the Red Bulls home-field advantage throughout the post-season.
