On Sunday, Levante was crushed 7-0 by one of the best teams in the World, Barcelona. They only thing positive about this match is that they held Barca to one goal in the second half, Messi only played 65 minutes and the referee blew the final whistle.
While a loss of this magnitude is embarrassing, it doesn’t waver my love for this club. Unlike the past two seasons where Levante at one time was on top of La Liga and had a beautiful run in the UEFA Europa League, this season is going to be a struggle for las Granotas.
No longer with the team is their former head coach, Juan Ignacio Martínez (JIM to all of us), former team captain, Sergio Ballesteros, Obafemi Martins who was sold to the Seattle Sounders and now Vicente Iborra who was sold to Sevilla.
Now coached by Joaquín Caparrós, we’ll see how this season fares for Levante. Nevertheless, I will continue to follow them and accept the fact that we’ll always be the club recognized for being, “Feos, pobres y humildes.”
While clubs like Barca and Real Madrid are globally recognized, Levante’s a community. And it’s a community I’m proud to be part of! Enjoy the photos provided to me by the club and hopefully, we’ll have a better result against Sevilla this Sunday. ¡Visca Llevant!
