Puerto Rico Baseball Moves into the Post Season


While professional baseball is taking a winter break in the states, here in Puerto Rico baseball is now entering into its post season. The four teams that made it to the post season are in this order:

criollos_transp_220x801First place, Criollos De Caguas with a record of 21-19 (Reining Champs). They are managed by Pedro López;

imagesSecond place, Leones de Ponce with a record of 21-19. They are managed by Carmelo Martínez.

Third place, Indios de Mayagüez with a record of 21-19. They are managed by Carlos Baerga logo_indios_mayaguez-sin-fondo-copy-640x360

Fourth place, Gigantes de Carolina with a record of 19-21. They are managed by Pat Kelly.Left out of the post season was the Cangrejeros de Santurce. These five teams make up the Puerto Rican professional league, named the Roberto Clemente Baseball League.GigantesDeCarolina

The four post-season teams will begin a round robin series this weekend with each team playing 12 games. Only two teams will move on the finals and the winner will also be representing Puerto Rico in this year’s Caribbean Baseball Series played this year in the island of Margarita, Venezuela.

The Criollos de Caguas and the Indios de Mayagüez have the most championships in Puerto Rico. Mayagüez has 17 and Caguas has 16. Both are considered the favorites to win this years championship.
