William GayNew York, NY – When it comes to man-on-woman Domestic Violence, many of us have asked, “Why doesn’t she leave him?” Will there ever come a time when the first question we’ll ask is, “Why doesn’t he stop hitting her?”

Last Wednesday at the Bryant Park Verizon Store in NYC, NFL player and Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback, William Gay and award-winning actress Uzo Aduba joined Verizon’s HopeLine program to take action against Domestic Violence.

Since 2001, HopeLine collects no-longer-used wireless phones, batteries, chargers from any service provider and turns them into support for domestic violence awareness and prevention organizations. Verizon also donates phones, complete with service and data, to domestic violence organizations such as Safe Horizon for use by victims and survivors.

For the second part of my three-series interviews about Domestic Violence and the HopeLine program, I interviewed Safe Horizon representative, Juanito Vargas.
