 World Cup Comes TO The South Bronx South Bronx, NY – The 2010 World Cup will be broadcast free for Bronx soccer fans. The 161st Street BID announced its schedule at a press conference held Thursday in Lou Gehrig Plaza located at 16st Street and the Grand Concourse in the South Bronx. The giant screen will carry a signal courtesy of FIFA and ESPN. “The BID will provide everyone a chance to see this historic event for FREE,” said Dr. Cary Goodman, its executive director. “The first World Cup from Africa.” The BID will also provide the first 200 fans with free folding chairs from which to watch. The 161st Street BID is one of 64 business improvement districts across New York City under the direction of Commissioner Robert Walsh, Department of Small Business Services. Each BID has its own character and theme. In 2009 the 161 BID sponsored the Hispanic Baseball Festival featuring Hall of Famer, Orlando Cepeda.. In February, the BID invited U.S. Olympian, Jeremy Abbott, to dedicate the Bronx’s first public ice rink.
