South Bronx Will Have A New Baseball Academy

Bronx, NY – The South Bronx has joined the growing list of MLB’s efforts to expand the game of baseball to inner city youth throughout the country.

Roberto Clemente State Park yesterday was host to, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred, MLBPA representative, Omar Minaya and Alex Rodríguez in officially announcing the development of the new baseball academy at the state park. The joint venture will provide $4 million dollars to help rebuild the fields and for instruction.

Alex Rodríguez donated $750,000 and made another different donation to the Retire 21 Campaign in the form of a plea for MLB to retire Roberto Clemente’s #21.

Francis Rodríguez, Executive Director of the park was ecstatic as this was a dream come true. Ms. Rodríguez called Latino Sports President, Julio Pabón to share the news and thank him for his efforts in attending meetings as far back as two years ago to help introduce the idea of an academy at the park to MLB.

Unfortunately, Mr. Pabón could not be present at the ceremony due to other commitments.
