Introducing Latina MMA Fighter Laura Salazar

NEW YORK – Within the next few weeks, I will be interviewing undefeated professional MMA fighter Lethal Laura Salazar. The purpose of the interview will be to learn of the obstacles she’s faced as an individual as well as a professional fighter.

From her upbringing in Mexico to her move to the United States and to the challenges she faces as a single-mother literally fighting for a better life, I believe it’ll be an interesting and insightful interview. In the meantime, here’s the press release that was sent to me:

Laura Salazar returned to the cage on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at XFS: Tornado in Valley Center, CA. Walking out to the cage to Drake’s “0-100”, you could tell that Lethal Laura was in the mindset to make short work of her noticeably larger opponent.

In just her second professional outing, “Lethal” Laura astonished the crowd in attendance, not to mention her opponent Katie Castro, by achieving the fastest knockout in her pro or amateur career. Without touching gloves and with no feeling out process, Lethal Laura sent a message out to the 115lbs Professional Women’s MMA division.

Laura is from EL Mesquitillo on the outskirts of Leon Guanajuato, Mexico.

With ferocity and a vicious killer instinct, Laura fired off a flurry of strikes after a brief clinch. Referee Cecil Peoples was forced to call a stop to the bout at 00:18 of the first round after her opponent was unable to defend herself. Lethal Laura’s professional record improves to 2-0-0.

Laura’s sparkling amateur career places her all around the globe, from winning the 2011 World Supergrands Martial Arts Championship in Sacramento, CA, to winning the 2012 World Pangration Athlima Championship in Sparta, Greece, to putting it down for three weeks to train with the world renowned Tiger Muay Thai Camp in Phuket, Thailand, her upward trajectory shows no signs of slowing down.

In 2013 she simultaneously embarked on an undefeated amateur MMA career (3-0) as well as an amateur Muay Thai career improving to 17-3 2013 also saw her audition for The Ultimate Fighter with Rhonda Rousey and participated in Uriah Faber’s first ever MMA draft combine.

Laura (2-0-0) recently signed with Latino MMA organization, Combate Americas.

Her goals to further her striking repetoire had her sign up at the world famous Wild Card Boxing Club, though it is the UFC Gym in Rosemead where she calls home, training primarily under the tutelage of Martial Arts Master Anthony Britton.

Earlier this year Laura made the trek to Las Vegas, Nevada to audition for The Ultimate Fighter 20, but was unfortunately not selected as one of its competitors. Undaunted, she vows to continue pursuing her dream of one day fighting in the UFC in her home country of Mexico.

Next up for Lethal Laura is the prestigious Subfighter grappling championships in October and another professional MMA bout scheduled in November with the XFS organization.

Excellent article, can’t wait to read more. I have heard about her, but not much on corporate news outlets. This is why we need Latino Sports.
