HARRISON, N.J. – The New York Red Bulls got their first win of the season on Saturday night, defeating the Houston Dynamo 4-3 at Red Bull Arena. New York fought back from 2-1 and 3-2 deficits before two late goals from Felipe gave the Red Bulls all three points. Sacha Kljestan and Mike Grella also scored for New York.

New York avoids an 0-3-0 start, and now sits at 1-2-0 heading into an off weekend. The Red Bulls are 11-4-8 all-time against Houston, including a 9-0-3 mark at home. Felipe tied the game in the 78th minute with a curling strike from just over 20 yards out. The Brazilian got the ball in space above the top of the penalty area, took a touch inside and launched a strike across the face of goal that beat Joe Willis to the right side.

The Red Bulls midfielder followed that up with a fantastic free kick from the top-right side of the box minutes later, launching a strike that again beat Willis to the top right corner.

Kljestan opened the scoring for New York in the 22nd minute, finding and finishing a loose ball in the box after Gonzalo Veron brought the play inside. The Argentine took possession down the wing and beat a defender on his cut into the box. Veron lost the ball trying to beat another pair of Dynamo players, but Kljestan found himself in good position and fired his first touch by Willis for his, and New York’s, first of the season.

The Red Bulls would concede twice before the end of the first half, allowing goals in the 35th and 41st minutes to Houston’s Will Bruin.

Grella pulled New York level at 2-2 in the 63rd minute with his first of the season. Grella was able to get his foot in front of an attempted goal line clearance by the Dynamo defense and deflect the ball back into the net.

The third Houston goal was from Alex in the 65th minute. The midfielder got the ball at the top of the box and struck a low shot that beat Robles inside the right corner. New York has next weekend off before heading to Foxborough for a match against the New England Revolution on Friday, April 1, at 7 p.m., with coverage on UniMas and Red Bulls Radio on TuneIn and English and Spanish.

The Red Bulls are back home on Saturday, April 9 to host Sporting Kansas City at 7 p.m.
