Coral Gables, Florida (VIP-WIRE) – It is feared that Major League Baseball (MLB) will announce the cancellation of the third and fourth series of the season, just as it announced last week that they would not play the first two series that were to begin on 31 of this month of March.
No fewer than four teams are known to have turned their backs on the other 26 to side with the players, especially in discussions about the Luxury Tax.
That happened when they held, via video, a meeting of representatives of the 30 teams with leaders of the Association and some bigleaguers. The dissidents demanded that the lockout end immediately. But four votes were not enough, they needed 23.
When I was writing this column I was informed…: “The two sides seem to be very far from a settlement”.
The owners ask to establish the Tax on rosters of 230 million dollars per season, while the players demand that it be raised to 263 million. This is one of the stickiest points in the discussions.
Late yesterday, the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBBPA) received the announcement that players from the Major League Soccer Players Association and the National Basketball Players Association were standing by them and would support them in as much as necessary.
But, even when the season is at stake, discussions take up very little space. The longest ones reach 90 minutes a day, except when they met on Jupiter last week, when they did work up to eight or more hours a day.
For today the inauguration of the Triple A season is announced, whose players are not on the rosters of the 40 Major Leagues. And on Tuesday, they will inaugurate the shares in Class A and Double A.
But there are 37 players who, even though they have never played in the Major Leagues, will not be able to take part in those minor league actions, because they do appear on the 40-man rosters.
I consulted a team executive by phone, if the cancellation of the entire big campaign of 2022 was feared, and he told me…:

Coral Gables, Florida (VIP-WIRE) – Se teme que Major League Baseball (MLB) anuncie la cancelación de la tercera y la cuarta series de la temporada, igual como anunció la semana pasada que no jugarían las primeras dos series que debían comenzar el 31 de este mes de marzo.
Se supo que no menos de cuatro equipos han dado la espalda a los otros 26 para ponerse al lado de los peloteros, especialmente en las discusiones acerca del Impuesto al Lujo.
Eso ocurrió cuando celebraban, a través de video, una reunión de representantes de los 30 equipos con dirigentes de la Asociación y algunos bigleaguers. Los disidentes exigían que el lockout terminara en seguida. Pero cuatro votos no eran suficientes, necesitaban 23.
Cuando escribía esta columna me informaron…: “Las dos partes parecen estar muy lejos de un arreglo”.
Los propietarios piden establecer el Impuesto a los rósters de 230 millones de dólares por temporada, mientras los peloteros exigen que se eleve a 263 millones. Este es uno de los puntos más peliagudos en las discusiones.
A última hora, ayer, le llegó a la Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBBPA), el anuncio de que los jugadores de la Major League Soccer Players Association y de la National Basketball Players Association se declaraban al lado de ellos y que los apoyarían en cuanto sea necesario.
Pero, aún cuando está en juego la temporada, las discusiones ocupan muy poco espacio. Las más prolongadas llegan a 90 minutos diarios, excepto cuando se reunieron en Júpiter, la semana pasada, cuando sí trabajaban hasta durante ocho o más horas por jornada.
Para hoy está anunciada la inauguración de la temporada Triple A, cuyos jugadores no están en los rósters de los 40 de Grandes Ligas. Y el martes, inaugurarán las acciones en Clases A y Doble A.
Pero hay 37 peloteros que, aún cuando nunca han jugado en Grandes Ligas, no podrán tomar parte en esas acciones de las menores, porque ellos sí aparecen en los rósters de los 40.
Consulté por teléfono a un ejecutivo de equipo, si se temía la cancelación de toda la campaña grande de 2022, y me dijo…:
“No es posible. Llegaremos a un acuerdo antes de lo que supones, Ya verás”.
Entre los negociadores de todos los días, no aparece el comisionado, Rob Manfred. Por los propietarios están al frente de las discusiones, Dan Halem y Morgan Sword; por la Asociación de Peloteros, Ian Penny y Bruce Meyer.
