Coral Gables, Florida (VIP-WIRE) ** Two great friends, valuable baseball personalities, had never written to me, but I made a mistake, and they have been quick to correct me, for which I deeply and sincerely thank them. They are the doctor, Arturo León Lerma, from Navojoa, a historic Mexican baseball executive, and Juan Loaiza, from Caracas, one of the best Spanish-speaking umpires ever.

Armando Ramírez M. from Rosarito, BC, asks…: “With three on bases and two outs, the batter hits beyond the fences so everyone gets to home plate. But they appeal, because the runner who was on second missed the base of third, and he is sentenced out. How many races are valid and why?
Amigo Mando…: One run is valid, only a single is credited to the batter and there are two base runners left. Simply because that out on third ends the inning.
Dr. León Lerma tells me…:
“Juan: No run counts. The out for not touching third base is forced, as if there had been a ground ball, and the game ends. No run is valid.
And Loaiza…: “Your answer is not correct, in relation to the play of the three baserunners. The third out at third base is forced, so it’s not worth any runs.”
Doctor and namesake…: Thank you very much on behalf of myself, my reader Armando and all the other readers. I will make mistakes again so that you write to me more often.

Coral Gables, Florida (VIP-WIRE) ** Dos grandes amigos, valiosos personajes del beisbol, jamás me habían escrito, pero cometí un error, y se han apresurado a corregirme, lo que les agradezco profunda y sinceramente. Ellos son el médico, Arturo León Lerma, de Navojoa, histórico ejecutivo del beisbol mexicano, y Juan Loaiza, de Caracas, uno de mejores umpires de habla hispana que ha habido.

Armando Ramírez M. de Rosarito, BC, pregunta…: “Con tres en bases y dos outs, el bateador batea más allá de las bardas por lo que todos llegan a home. Pero apelan, porque el corredor que estaba en segunda no pisó la almohadilla de tercera, y lo sentencian out. ¿Cuántas carreras son válidas y por qué?”.
Amigo Mando…: Una carrera es válida, se le acredita solo sencillo al bateador y quedan dos corredores en bases. Sencillamente, porque ese out en tercera acaba con el inning.
El doctor León Lerma me dice…:
“Juan: No cuenta ninguna carrera. El out por no pisar la tercera base, es forzado, como si hubiera habido un roletazo, y el juego termina. Ninguna carrera es válida.
Y Loaiza…: “No es correcta tu respuesta, en relación a la jugada de los tres corredores en bases. El tercer out en tercera base, es forzado, por lo que no vale ninguna carrera”.
Dóctor y tocayo…: Muchas gracias en nombre personal, de mi lector Armando y de todos los demás lectores. Volveré a cometer errores para que ,me escriban más a menudo.

El propietario de esa página, Fernando Ballesteros, es muy responsable y no cometería tal desatino. Están basados en Culiacán y allá soy exclusivo del diario “Debate” y de la página web de “Tomateros”. Por eso, cualquiera sin autorización, que se robe mi trabajo, podría ser enjuiciado, más rápido que inmediatamente… ¿O no?…
