LOS ANGELES, CA — May 9, 2023 — (NOTICIAS NEWSWIRE) — In celebration of the iconic American labor leader and civil rights activist Dolores Huerta’s 93rd birthday and her honorary degree of doctor of science honoris causa from the University of Southern California, the Dolores Huerta Foundation is bringing elected officials, labor unions and community activists together to raise money for the Dolores Huerta Peace and Justice Center Capital Campaign.
“I am humbled to receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Southern California. This esteemed institution of learning has graduated the likes of legendary community organizer, Fred Ross, who trained both Cesar Chavez and me. Education is the most powerful antidote to ignorance and hate. Our democracy thrives with a fully informed and educated citizenry. At this critical moment, I feel it is of the gravest importance that we come together on all fronts to defend and champion our democracy.
I feel incredibly fortunate to reach the age of 93 and look back on the accomplishments made by the Dolores Huerta Foundation, which I founded 20 years ago. We have made real improvements in the lives of students, women, LGBTQ+ brothers and sisters, immigrants, and communities of color, but we know we have not yet achieved the equity we deserve. I look to shepherding in a future where we work to achieve a world that is just and fair for all!”
The Dancing with Dolores fundraising event is on Friday, May 12, 2023. A Sponsor Reception Admission begins at 5:30 pm. Concert Gates open to registered attendees at 6:30 pm. The concert and dancing are from 7 - 9:30 pm PST. The dance party and concert with the Louie Cruz Beltran Latin Jazz Orchestra will celebrate Dolores Huerta's 93rd birthday and her honorary degree of Doctor of Science honoris causa from the University of Southern California with remarks by Dolores Huerta and special guests, Maria Brenes, Nalleli Cobo and the Honorable Hilda Solis who will be honored for their commitment and achievements in climate justice, community organizing, leadership, and advocacy.
