SAN ANTONIO, TX - November 9, 2023 - (NOTICIAS NEWSWIRE) -The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, the only national association representing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), broke ground on its new headquarters in San Antonio, Texas on November 9, 2023.
"The groundbreaking ceremony for our new headquarters is a significant step, both physically and symbolically, in the process of creating HACU’s new, permanent home,” said HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores. “The new site will make San Antonio a center for HSI initiatives and new ways of advancing the success of all students in national and international higher education."
The ceremony held at the site of the future facility brought local and national higher education leadership to participate in the groundbreaking, including HACU Governing Board Members: Abel Antonio Chávez, president, Our Lady of the Lake University; Emma Grace Hernández Flores, president, Universidad de Iberoamérica; and Greg Peterson, president, Chandler-Gilbert Community College. San Antonio leaders participating also included: Thomas M. Evans, president, University of the Incarnate Word; Rubén Minutti-Zanatta, Consul General of Mexico; and Joe Alderete, trustee of the Alamo Colleges District.
“The new headquarters will lay the foundation for eight thematic institutes to elevate Hispanic higher education and allow for the expansion of programs and services that will benefit the city as well as institutions across the globe," added Flores.
Following the ground breaking ceremony, Juan Miro from Miro Rivera Architects provided an overview presentation on the 25,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility by Marmon Mok Architecture, in partnership with Miro Rivera Architects, to be located on a 4.7-acre site on the Northwest side of San Antonio, and to house eight (8) institutes. The new headquarters will accommodate up to 100 employees on two floors.
The building design will represent Hispanic culture and reflect trends in the Latin regions of the world. Building features include multi-departmental spaces, collaborative workspaces, and teaching environments. Outdoor green spaces on the campus will be functional and serve as gathering spaces for employees and the community.
Construction is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2025.
