PUERTO RICO OLYMPIC BASKETBALL. Now this is a truly soon to be Retro and historic jersey. in the 2004 Athens Olympics Puerto Rico faced the USA in their first Basketball game for both teams. Puerto Rico was not considered a competitive team to the powerful USA team with Tim Duncan and Allen Iverson. Some questioned Puerto WHO? They found out when Puerto Rico not only held back and controlled the game from the start, but defeated the USA in what has become known as one of the biggest upsets in basketball history. PR beat USA 92-73. Iverson and his aggressive style met his match with PR’s point guard, #7 Carlos Arroyo who played in the NBA for the Utah Jazz. Arroyo not only controlled the tempo of the game for PR to sustain the win, but his 24 points was the leading scorer. When the game was over, Carlos looked at Iverson and with both hans on his jersey sleeves, pushed out the jersey with the Puerto Rican flag like saying, “Toma!” This is not just a beautiful jersey, it’s a piece of Puerto Rican basketball and Latino sports history.
