LOS ANGELES, CA — In Game 3 of the 2025 World Series at Dodger Stadium Monday evening, Tyler Glasnow got the start for Los Angeles, facing Toronto’s Max Scherzer, a future Hall of Famer, with the best of seven Fall Classic tied up at one game each.

A best-of-five World Series now in the lens of both teams.

The goal for the Dodgers was to get Glasnow to finish seven-eight innings, so they would only need to use one pitcher out of their bullpen, with the hope that their new rookie closer, Roki Sasaki, could hold on to whatever lead LA potentially had. The Blue Jays had two plans in mind: get Glasnow out early so they can expose the inconsistencies of that Dodger bullpen, and hope the 41-year-old in “Mad Max” could pitch like a 29-year-old.

It didn’t take long for the Dodgers to get on the board when, in the bottom of the second inning, Teoscar Hernández, Cotui, Dominican Republic, hit a Scherzer slider 412-feet over the Dodger Bullpen, giving LA an early 1-0 lead: his fifth home run of this postseason and 12th RBI.

Oh, and then in the next inning, Shohei Ohtani parked a 389-foot shot into the right field seats for two more Dodger runs.

The Blue Jays came right back in the top of the fourth inning, when a Tommy Edman error allowed runners to advance, setting up an Alejandro Kirk, Tijuana, Mexico, first-pitch 394-foot three-run home run to center field, giving Toronto a 3-2 lead.

Toronto would send eight batters to the plate, ending the inning up with a 4-2 lead. This time, it was not the bullpen that hurt the Dodgers as Glasnow left with a disappointing line of 4.2 innings pitched, five hits, four runs, two earned runs, three walks, five strikeouts, and one home run.

Not effective as Glasnow sought out to be, the right-hander threw 85 pitches, 56 for strikes.

But not so fast. After a lead-off single by fan favorite and clutch postseason hitter, Kiké Hernández, San Juan, Puerto Rico, a double by Ohtani, and a single by Freddie Freeman, the game was tied at 4-4. Then it was Blake Treinen to the rescue, for the Blue Jays that was. The right-hander has been one of the culprits out of the Dodger bullpen this year, blowing the game after he was brought in to relieve Justin Wrobleski, who pitched great.

With two outs, Treinen gave up three straight hits, and the Jays went ahead again in the seventh inning.

Yet have no fear, Dodger fans: Ohtani is here. In the home half of the seventh, the left-handed hitting phenom, set to pitch in Game 4 Tuesday night, hit his second home run of the night to tie the game at 5-5.

Two doubles and two home runs for the best player in baseball. Add in five free passes with four coming as intentional walks. Each time he stepped up to the plate, Ohtani reached base as four of them resulted in extra-base hits, two of which left the yard.

It stayed tied for another eleven innings until Freddie Freeman hit a 406-foot home run to dead center field to lead off the bottom of the 18th inning, capping off a 6-5 classic at Dodger Stadium.

The eighteen inning marathon tied for the longest game in World Series history with Game 3 of the 2018 Fall Classic between the Dodgers and Boston Red Sox on the very same grounds of Los Angeles. Though Game 3 of the Fall Classic Monday night lasted six hours and thirty nine minutes (6:39), Game 3 of the 2018 World Series still holds the No. 1 spot with a duration of approximately seven hours and twenty minutes (7:20).

“When you grind and fight and our bullpen and pitching staff did what they did, to have that go six hours and 40 minutes or so, that’s as good as it gets,” Freeman said.

Will Klein picked up the win after going the last four innings and throwing 72 pitches, the most he ever threw in a Major League game as his career high before Monday was 36 pitches. If Freeman didn’t end it in the 18th inning, Yoshinobu Yamamoto was warmed up and ready to pitch the 19th.

In totality of Game 3 on Monday, the Dodgers and Blue Jays combined to trot out 19 pitchers—10 for Los Angeles and nine by Toronto.

“Our bullpen was absolutely incredible,” Freeman said. “Will Klein—absolutely incredible.”

Looking ahead, the Dodgers now lead the best of seven series, 2-1, with Game 4 scheduled for Tuesday night in LA and Ohtani set to face Toronto’s Shane Bieber.
