Han revivido paulatinamente en los últimos años los lanzamientos al cuerpo de los bateadores, especialmente contra los de poder y contra los payasones que hacen figuritas de perreo después de cada batazo.
Tanto, que, como me informan mis amigos de Larry Brown Sports, Major League Baseball investiga si es cierto que el mánager de los Medias Rojas, Alex Cora dijo que “es implícito” que sus pitchers le han tirado a golpear al outfielder y slugger de los Yankees, Aaron Judge.
Hasta hace unos 30 años, se sabía que muchos de los lanzadores, le tiraban recta a la cabeza de todo bateador que fuera el siguiente después que alguien conectara jonrón.
Con la llegada de Marvin Miller a la Major League Baseball Players Association, desapareció esa costumbre, que era casi ley.
Ahora, ya no castigan a un inocente, pero sí esperan que vuelva al bate el jonronero o el del figureo, para obligarlo a hacer de torero, si quiere evitar los dolores de un bolazo.
Por cierto, en 2018 Judge recibió un pelotazo tan fuerte, que salió hacia la lista de los lesionados.
Como es de suponer, está prohibido intentar golpear a los bateadores. Y las sanciones pueden ser, expulsión del juego, multas y suspensiones.
Pero hay dos cosas prohibidas, que los lanzadores siguen haciendo: Esa, de acercarles las rectas a los bateadores y tirar pelotas ensalivadas o con otras sustancias.
No obstante que ahora los umpires examinan a cada rato a los pitchers y sus guantes, ¡quién sabe cómo lo hacen!, pero siguen embadurnando las pelotas.
Pero, el bateador que ha recibido más pelotazos, vía lanzadores, no era jonronero, ni amigo del figureo, jugó antes de la era del poder y del figureo, hasta 1918. Fue el infielder, Hughie Jennings, bateador de .312, 18 jonrones, 840 carreras impulsadas y 356 robos. Lo elevaron al Hall de la Fama, en 1945. Lo golpearon con lanzamientos, 287 veces.
