Dear friend Chubi: I think we have to accept that Baerga is frustrated, mortified, because he believes he deserves a place in Cooperstown, which is an exaggeration.
I’m not the only one saying it. 581 voters said it, the all-time record, set in 2011, when Baerga was a candidate for the first and only time, and when he didn’t get a single vote, zero votes!
It’s impossible that 581 press professionals, specialized in baseball in the United States and trained to vote, were wrong.
As for Rickey Henderson, who would have turned 66 today, but died five days ago of pneumonia, not only has he been, easily, the best at the front of a lineup, but he could also have been a tremendous third hitter.
In his 25 seasons, he hit .279 (excellent contact hitter), 297 home runs (remarkable power), 1,115 RBIs (very timely) (at bat). And the greatest thing, 1,406 stolen bases in 1,741 attempts. In eight seasons he hit over .300 and in 13, he was the leader in stolen bases.
By the way, my son Sergio finds it hard to understand how Henderson, apparently in the prime of his life, died in a San Francisco hospital, a victim of pneumonia, when so few people die from this disease these days.
My condolences to Rickey’s lifelong love, from High School, Pamela, and to his heirs, Angela, Alexis and Adriana.
Having seen Rickey play for years is a wonderful reminder of how great baseball is. But it is also regretful for his absence.
Figures like him should not have to leave the sport, the show.

Amigo Chubi: Creo que debemos aceptar que Baerga está frustrado, mortificado, porque cree merecer un nicho en Cooperstown, lo que es una exageración.
No lo digo yo solamente. Lo dijimos 581 electores, el récord de todos los tiempos, impuesto en 2011, cuando Baerga fue candidato por primera y única vez, y cuando no obtuvo ni un voto, ¡cero votos!
Es imposible que 581 profesionales de la prensa, especializados en el beisbol en Estados Unidos y entrenados para votar, nos hayamos equivocado.
En cuanto a Rickey Henderson, quien hubiera cumplido hoy 66 años de edad, pero murió hace cinco días, de neumonía, no solo ha sido, fácilmente, el mejor al frente de una alineación, sino que igualmente, pudo ser tremendo tercer bate.
En sus 25 temporadas, bateó para .279 (excelente bateador de contacto), 297 jonrones (notable poder), 1115 carreras impulsadas (muy oportuno al bate). Y lo más grande, mil 406 bases robadas en mil 741 intentos. En ocho temporadas bateó sobre .300 y en 13, quedó líder en robos de bases.
Por cierto, a mi hijo Sergio le cuesta entender cómo Henderson, aparentemente en plena y rozagante vida, haya muerto en un hospital de San Francisco, víctima de neumonía, cuando por ese mal mueren tan pocos en estos días.
Las condolencia para el amor de toda la vida de Rickey, desde High School, Pamela, y para sus herederos, Angela, Alexis y Adriana.
Haber visto jugar a Rickey durante años es un maravilloso recuerdo de lo estupendo que es el beisbol. Pero también es lamento por su ausencia.
Figuras como él no deberían tener que abandonar el deporte, el espectáculo.
Inolvidable Rickey Henderson, con su sonrisa de siempre y volando entre base y base, más que correrlas.
