Tarik Skubal’s injury removed him from the running to win this year’s Cy Young Award in the American League. And the National League favorite, Paul Skenes, has had a very poor start to the season.
My friend Jimmy Shapiro, of Stuff Media Group, says: “Major League Baseball is being dominated by pitchers this season.
“I wasn’t even born in 1968, when only six hitters batted over .300, including just one in the American League, Carl Yastrzemski, with .301.
“The offense was so lacking that year that MLB decided to lower the pitchers’ mound from 15 to 10 inches.
“So, what changes will they implement after this season?
“I don’t recall a month of pitcher dominance like May of this year.
“The standout players were Christopher Sánchez, Jacob Misiorowski, Shohei Ohtani, and Cam Schlittler.
“Currently, 21 pitchers have an ERA below 3.00, and five of them have one below 2.00.
“It all started with Tarik Skubal and Paul Skenes as favorites for the Cy Young Award.
“Skubal is injured, and Skenes has a WAR of 1.5, while Sánchez is at 4.3.”
