Cuando llegó, dijo en inglés, dirigiéndose a todos: “Perdonen, pero atenderé primero al periodista de habla hispana”.
Le pedí me hablara de la Serie, y sobre él. Dijo: “Dedico a Hispanoamérica mi premio de Más Valioso en esta Serie Mundial, todo lo que hice para que ganara mi equipo, y la alegría que siento ahora. Espero que ahora comprendan en las Grandes Ligas, que en el mundo de habla hispana hay jugadores de máxima calidad, iguales o superiores que los mejores de aquí”.
Roberto bateó en esa Serie para .414, con 759 de slugging, dos jonrones, cuatro carreras impulsadas, un triple, dos dobles. Y a la defensiva, en el right field, sus piernas, sus manos y su brazo fueron sensacionales”.
