Coral Gables, Florida (VIP-WIRE) – Friday to Remember: The last right-handed pitcher to win 30 or more games was Denny McLain with the Tigers, 31-6, 1.96 ERA, in 1968. Now, the last left-hander with 30 or more wins in a season was Frank Killen of the Pirates, 30-18, 3.41 ERA, in 1896.
On July 31 of that same year, 1896, 130 years ago today, Killen argued some calls with umpire Bud Laly and landed a tremendous right hook to his jaw, knocking him out. Another umpire had to replace him. Killen, of course, was arrested and suspended. But the League President forgave him because he was on track to reach 30 wins.

El 31 de julio de ese mismo 1896, hace hoy 130 años, Killen protestó unos lanzamientos al umpire, Bud Laly y le acomodó tremendo derechazo en la mandíbula, dejándolo knockout. Otro umpire hubo de sustituirlo. Killen, desde luego, fue arrestado y suspendido. Pero el Presidente de la Liga lo perdonó porque entonces iba rumbos a esas 30 victorias.
