Puerto Rico & Mets Mourn Pedro Feliciano

Puerto Rico and Mets fans throughout are mourning the unexpected passing of Pedro Feliciano. Feliciano was a NY Mets reliever who had the most appearances by a #Mets pitcher in a season:

2010 – Pedro Feliciano 92

2009 – Pedro Feliciano 88

2008 – Pedro Feliciano 86

Pedro passed on Sunday night at the young age of 45. Feliciano, a native of Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico was drafted in the 31st round by the Dodgers in 1995. However, he was never able to debut with the Dodgers. In 2001 he signed with the Cincinnati Reds as a free agent. In August of 2002 the left-handed reliever debuted in Major League Baseball with the NY Mets.

Feliciano was also part of the Puerto Rican World Baseball Classic teams of 2006 and 2009. In 2013 Feliciano had announced that he was diagnosed with a small hole on the exterior of his heart. He was surprised as he commented that he had never felt anything wrong with his heart.

On Sunday afternoon Feliciano was out Jet Skiing with his family and unfortunately, that was the last sporting event he experienced. He passed that evening.

Pedro Feliciano was not just a good baseball player, he was also a great human being. Pedro was always very supportive of myself whenever I needed an interview. He never said no. He was also that way with our senior writer, Rich Mancuso, sometimes just sitting and having a conversation in the dugout, or walking out of the stadium.

Latino Sports expresses our deepest condolences to the Feliciano family.
