One Left-Hander Injured and Another Returns
The old baseball sages say: “If a left-hander throws strikes, don’t trade him.”
And the Mets can inspire another piece of advice: “A left-hander, even if he’s old and despised by many, don’t abandon him.”
Well, the Mets had 30-year-old left-handed reliever Richard Lovelady on their roster, acquired at the end of last season. He hadn’t thrown a single pitch for them when, two weeks ago, he was designated for assignment and claimed by the Nationals.
The Mets were happy, but only for a short time, as their left-handed reliever, A.J. Minter, was injured. They were desperately searching for a replacement when they discovered they could claim Lovelady off waivers, so they took him from the Washington team.
As they say, “What belongs to the priest goes to the church.” It was written in the stars that left-hander Richard Lovelady would be with the New York Yankees in the season starting at the end of this month.
Lovelady is entering his seventh season and has played for seven teams: Royals, Athletics, Cubs, Rays, Blue Jays, Mets (twice, though he hasn’t pitched for them), and Nationals (also though he hasn’t pitched for them).

Un Zurdo Lesionado y Otro Zurdo Regresa
Los viejos sabios del beisbol dicen: “Zurdo que tire strikes, no lo cambies”.
Y los Mets pueden inspirar otra conseja: “Zurdo, aunque sea viejo y despreciado por muchos, no lo abandones”.
