Judge vs. Trout Delivers: Yankees Snap Skid in Instant Classic

BRONX, NY — In a game that felt more like October than April on Monday night, the New York Yankees snapped a five-game losing streak in dramatic fashion, outlasting the Los Angeles Angels in a back-and-forth 11-10 slugfest defined by two of the game’s brightest stars.

Aaron Judge and Mike Trout—both three-time American League MVPs and future Hall of Famers—delivered a heavyweight duel for the ages, each launching two home runs.

According to league records, this marked just the second time in Major League Baseball history that two players with at least three career MVP awards each homered multiple times in the same game—joining Stan Musial and Roy Campanella in 1956.

For much of the night in the Bronx, the Yankees appeared in control. A towering two-run homer from Judge in the first inning set the tone, as did a frozen rope off the bat of José Caballero an inning later to left field, pushing New York ahead 4-0.

On the mound, right-hander Will Warren was electric out of the gate, striking out six and allowing no earned runs, but defensive miscues unraveled his outing in the fourth inning. A key error by Caballero opened the door for four unearned runs, allowing the Angels to erase the deficit and tie the game.

From there, the contest turned into a slugfest. Trent Grisham, entering as a pinch hitter, who was batting .133 with zero home runs before Monday, provided a critical spark with a three-run homer in the fifth inning to give the Yankees a 7-4 lead. But the advantage was short-lived.

Trout answered with a three-run blast of his own, later adding a go-ahead two-run homer in the seventh off Camilo Doval to give Los Angeles a 10-8 lead.

Judge responded once again, crushing his second homer of the night to briefly put the Yankees ahead earlier in the game, as chants of “MVP” echoed throughout Yankee Stadium with 35,789 in attendance.

Trailing by two in the ninth inning, New York mounted its final push. After a leadoff single from Jazz Chisholm Jr., Grisham delivered again—launching a game-tying two-run homer—his second of the night and his 2026 season, completing a remarkable performance off the bench.

Moments later, the Yankees capitalized on aggressive baserunning to seal the comeback victory, turning a potential sixth straight loss into a momentum-shifting win.

“In a lot of ways, I feel like it was good to win a game like that,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “Where the offense really breaks out and has a ton of really good at-bats.”

Judge, who finished with two home runs and three RBI, downplayed the significance, stating, “It ends that losing streak, that’s about it.”

The victory comes at a critical moment for a Yankees team that had struggled offensively during its skid, hitting just .156 over the previous five games.

Boone expressed optimism that such performances could serve as a turning point, describing Monday night’s win to improve to 9-7 as “messy,” adding “but maybe that’s what we needed.”

Of the Trout vs. Judge matchup living up to the hype and some, he said, “I’m sure you guys (members of the media) probably promoted that, and that part of it certainly delivered.”
