“As former president of the National College of Journalists of Venezuela, I wish, through your prestigious column, to convey to the baseball players, team owners, Major League managers, broadcasters and commentators, print, audiovisual, and online media, and baseball fans, our gratitude for the beautiful gesture and acts of human solidarity they have shown us during this painful time we Venezuelans are suffering due to the devastating double earthquake of June 24th.
We could write many words and express our gratitude to each and every one of them, but what our hearts tell us is greater.” Prayer: May God reward you and shower you with blessings… MgS, Levy Benshimol R.”
Beautiful message, my friend Levy. But also, the time has come to unmask the engineers, builders, and their associates—the criminals.
The tragedy itself exposes them. How is it possible that in photos and videos, one sees several buildings perfectly intact, perhaps with a crack or two, while one right next to them has collapsed into rubble?
The seismic zone is the same, but the destroyed building wasn’t properly constructed. Engineers, builders, and their associates cheated, pocketing millions in their bank accounts, while cutting corners on safety for those who would live in those buildings.
It’s already known that in Caracas, with its tremendous seismic zone, buildings have been constructed using seawater and sand to save money.
On the coast, a photo was taken of a certain house—not a building—which the earthquakes reduced to a pile of ruins that covered several bodies. And next to it, another beautiful house, well-built, remained standing.
The College of Engineers, the Association (or whatever it’s called) of Builders, and the authorities… National authorities are obligated to investigate and punish.
Venezuela cries out for it, because in 60 years there will be another earthquake, and if we are not well prepared, if we continue building poorly, like starving millionaires, many people will die again, countless people will be left injured and without a place to live, and Levy Benshimol will once again write a tearful and grateful note.

Ingenieros y Constructores Culpables del Gran Desastre
Coral Gables, Florida (VIP-WIRE) – Mi querido amigo y colega, Levy Benshimol, me envió esta emotiva nota:
“En mi condición de expresidente del Colegio Nacional de Periodistas de Venezuela deseo, a través de tu prestigiosa columna, hacerles llegar a los peloteros, a los propietarios de los equipos, a los dirigentes de las Grandes Ligas, a los narradores y comentaristas, a los los medios de comunicación impresos, audiovisuales, y cibernéticos, y a los fanáticos y fanáticas del beisbol, nuestros sentimientos de gratitud por el hermoso gesto y acciones de solidaridad humana, que a bien nos brindan, en estos momentos de dolor que sufrimos los venezolanos, por el devastador doble terremoto del 24 junio.
“Podemos escribir con muchas letras, y decir muchas palabras de agradecimiento a todos y a cada uno de ellos, pero es superior lo que dicta nuestro corazón con esta rogativa: DIOS SE LOS PAGUE Y LOS COLME DE BENDICIONES… MgS, Levy Benshimol R.”
Hermoso mensaje, amigo Levy. Pero además, ha llegado el momento de desenmascarar a ingenieros, constructores y anexos, delincuentes.
La misma tragedia los denuncia. ¿Cómo es posible que, en fotos y videos vea uno a varios edificios muy completos, quizá con alguna ranurita, mientras uno ha caído al lado hecho polvo?
La veta sísmica es la misma, pero la edificación destrozada no estaba bien construida. Ingenieros, constructores y anexos, hicieron trampa, llevándose unos millones a sus cuentas bancarias, economizando seguridad para quienes vivirían en esos inmuebles.
Ya se supo que en Caracas, con su tremenda veta sísmica, se han construido edificios con agua y arena del mar, para gastar menos dinero.
En el litoral captaron una foto de cierta casa, no un edificio, a la cual los terremotos convirtieron en un montón de ruinas que cubrieron varios cadáveres. Y al lado quedó en pie otra hermosa que había sido bien construida.
El Colegio de Ingenieros, la Asociación (o como se llame) de Constructores y las autoridades nacionales están obligadas a investigar y castigar.
Venezuela lo clama, porque dentro de 60 años habrá otro terremoto y si no estamos bien preparados, si se sigue construyendo mal, en plan de millonarios muertos de hambre, otra vez morirá mucha gente, otra vez quedarán innumerables lesionados sin tener dónde vivir, otra vez Levy Benshimol escribirá una llorosa y agradecida nota.
