BRONX, NY — The comeback kids some would call the 2026 New York Yankees.
On the corner of 161st Street and River Avenue Tuesday night, the Yankees spent six innings searching for the breakthrough that finally arrived all at once with Ryan McMahon and Trent Grisham each delivering two-run singles during a four-run seventh inning that lifted New York’s struggling offense to a 4-1 comeback victory over the Mariners.
Before an announced crowd of 41,407 as the Yankees hosted KPop Demon Hunters Night with fans receiving their very own Rumi bobble head, the comeback win marked the Yankees’ 30th come from behind victory in 2026, which leads the American League.
Seattle starter Bryan Woo entered with a 6.71 road ERA but held the Yankees scoreless for five innings, allowing only three hits while striking out five. Cuban-Mexican and known Yankee killer Randy Arozarena (64 hits in 78 career games vs. the Yankees) broke up the scoreless tie with a solo home run off Ryan Weathers in the sixth.

Nevertheless, New York answered an inning later in the seventh against reliever Michael Rucker as newly acquired Luis García Jr. opened the home frame with a double off the base of the right field wall before Jazz Chisholm Jr. singled and then stole second.
After a George Lombard Jr. strikeout, and Spencer Jones working a walk to load the bases, McMahon followed with a two-run single through the left side, putting the Yankees ahead 2-1. Austin Wells kept the rally alive with a bloop single that fell in shallow right field before Grisham drove home another two-run single through the left side.

“We grinded and didn’t get much going obviously in the middle innings, but then in the seventh, just a lot of tough at-bats,” manager Aaron Boone said. “It was good to cash in but I felt like overall even on the heels of the Sunday game against the Braves where we were making better contact and didn’t have anything to show for it, we carried a little of that into tonight. We still got a long ways to go, but hopefully this is us moving the needle to get closer to the offense we can be.”
Weathers kept New York within striking distance, surrendering one run on two hits over 5⅔ innings. He struck out four and walked three while throwing 106 pitches, 62 for strikes.
“I thought they put a lot of tough at-bats (on him),” Boone said of the left-hander’s outing. “But at the end of the day, he’s two outs into the sixth, giving up only the one run. So, stuff and execution was again good. Just a lot of long at-bats made it more of a grind of a night for him.”

Following Weathers, Tim Hill recorded four outs and earned the victory while Brent Headrick struck out two during a perfect eighth, giving him an MLB-leading 51 scoreless appearances this season.
David Bednar closed the game, recording two strikeouts for his 27th save on the season.

With the win, the Yankees improved to 67-52 and moved three games ahead of Boston for the AL’s top wild-card spot after the Red Sox, suffering their fourth consecutive loss, fell to the Blue Jays in Toronto.
“I hope it serves us well in the end, that’s what we’re going with so I think there’s value in playing in these games and proving we can win in these games,” Boone said of the team’s ability to fight back. “It’s a testament to just how good the pitching’s been holding us in but also as we’ve struggled through some offense, we’ve also come up big in some spots and tonight was more of that.”

On another note, New York has won 26 games while scoring four runs or fewer—the third most in the majors.
To take a look back at last season, the Yankees recorded 28 such victories.
With 43 games remaining, the pitching has continued to give New York a chance in a mediocre American League though the larger question is whether the offense and bullpen can remain steady until Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger and Giancarlo Stanton return.
