BRONX, NY — Toronto’s star duo of Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr., the sons of former big leaguers Dante Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Sr., have gone through the highs and lows together, making their respective MLB debuts as Blue Jays during the 2019 season just three months apart.
Becoming pillars of the organization ever since and the same goes as high-profiled names across the game, Bichette, 27, a free agent after the 2025 campaign, currently leads all of MLB in hits this season while Guerrero Jr., 26, ranks top-10 in a variety of offensive categories, inking a 14-year/$500 million contract extension with Toronto this past April.

During an interview with Latino Sports on Friday at Yankee Stadium prior to the Blue Jays and Yankees opening up a three-game set, the two-time Brazilian-American All-Star shortstop Bichette described Guerrero Jr. and himself together as “resilient.”
“I think that we’re resilient, you know—like we’ve always known that we’re good and good enough to win in this league, and hopefully win a World Series one day, but, just being around this league for a few years now, going through the ups and downs for myself, for Vladdy, and as a team and then coming out together on the positive side—it shows our resilience. And I think those are the kind of things that you have to go through if you want to be a great player for a long time or if you want your team to be successful for a long time.”
As the Blue Jays’ star-studded pairing, once labeled the ‘Baby Jays’ walked off the field of Yankee Stadium together following batting practice and warm ups on the infield, Bichette provided insights of his dominant 2025 season at-the-plate, one in which has him posting a .311/.356/.482 slash line with 18 home runs and 93 RBI.
“Getting better in some areas for sure, but I think the biggest thing is just maturing,” he noted. “Maturing in terms of handling the day-to-day of this game and not letting the highs get too high, and the lows get too low. Just figuring out a way to come here and be productive for my team every day, whether I feel good or whether I don’t and somehow putting up numbers to help the team win.”
That Bichette has done and did again Friday in Toronto’s 7-1 win over the Yankees in front of a sold out Bronx crowd, compiling three hits and two RBI on a first inning RBI double followed by a second inning sacrifice fly then a single to right field in the fifth and another to center in the visiting frame of the seventh—putting him at 180 hits overall in 2025.
Not a surprise Bichette stamped his mark in the series opening victory, a stage filled with intensity and the pressure turned up a notch as each team continues their chase to October with the American League East division title still up for grabs—Toronto leading by four-games after play on Friday.
“It’s a big stage, especially late in the season when both teams are playing well,” Bichette said prior to first pitch. “These are the kind of things that you dream about—having the opportunity to play in New York and hopefully I can go out tonight and have an important part in the game.”

Another big stage Bichette is looking forward to is the 2026 World Baseball Classic set to be played next March as he has already announced his commitment to participating and playing for Team Brazil alongside his younger brother Dante Jr., thanks to their mother, Mariana, being a native of Porto Alegre, Brazil.
“I have a lot going on before that,” he said, referring to his pending free agency and offseason plans. “But yeah, I mean, it’s been a dream since I played for them when I was 18 years old (2016 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers). We didn’t play well enough to qualify for the real tournament, but it’s been something that I told them from that point—I would go and help them if the opportunity arose again. It should be really exciting.”
