SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO — Puerto Rico is one island nation that does not fall short on sporting events. The latest is in preparing to host Borinquen Smoke Out, an unprecedented event that will bring together some of the leading figures and organizations in professional women’s softball, solidifying the island as a premier venue for international women’s sports.
The series will feature the Puerto Rican National Team, currently ranked No. 3 in the world, facing the professional Atlanta Smoke, an organization owned by former Major League Baseball player Brandon Phillips and WWE superstar Jade Cargill.
Later, Puerto Rico will host the first official series of the Professional Softball League (PSL), when the Atlanta Smoke face the Kansas City Diamonds, marking a historic moment for the development and exposure of women’s professional softball in Puerto Rico.
“Puerto Rico has a rich sports culture and passionate fans. We are honored to bring Atlanta Smoke to the Island and be part of an event that not only showcases world-class softball but also inspires the next generation of young female athletes. This is what growing the game is all about.” – Brandon Phillips, Co-Owner, Atlanta Smoke

As part of the event’s commitment to sports development, each day will include a preliminary game of the Puerto Rico Youth League, giving young athletes the opportunity to experience a high-level competitive environment and be inspired by some of the best players in the world. These games will begin at 3:00 p.m.
“For the Puerto Rico Softball Federation, hosting the Borinquen Smoke Out represents a historic opportunity to continue elevating women’s softball on our island. This event not only allows our National Team to compete against a top-level professional organization, but also opens doors for our young athletes, strengthens the visibility of the sport, and reaffirms Puerto Rico’s commitment to the development of women’s softball internationally. We invite everyone to be part of this great sporting celebration.” – Tommy Velázquez, President of the Puerto Rico Softball Federation.
In addition, a specialized clinic for girls and young athletes will be held on Wednesday, June 10, offering a unique educational and athletic experience alongside professional-level players and coaches.
The Borinquen Smoke Out represents much more than just a series of games. The event aims to boost the growth of women’s sports in Puerto Rico, generate resources and visibility for the National Team, foster the development of future generations of athletes, and continue positioning Puerto Rico as an ideal destination for high-impact international sporting events.
