MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Brewers have signed outfielder Luis Lara to a seven-year contract through 2032 with club options for 2033, 2034 and 2035. He has been added to the 40-man roster and optioned to Triple-A Nashville. In a corresponding move, left-handed pitcher Brian Fitzpatrick was transferred to the 60-day injured list. The announcement was made by President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Matt Arnold.

“Luis is an exciting young talent, and we’re thrilled to commit to him long term,” said Arnold. “He has proven to be one of the premier defensive outfielders in the Minor Leagues, and he has taken tremendous strides forward offensively this season. With support from ownership, we’re pleased to be able to lock in another key player for our future.”

Lara, 21, was signed by Milwaukee in January 2022 as a non-drafted free agent out of Venezuela. He is currently ranked as the fourth-best prospect in the Brewers organization and 50th overall prospect in baseball according to Baseball America. He is currently ranked by MLB Pipeline as the fifth-best prospect in the organization and 91st overall prospect in baseball.

Lara is batting .338 with 7 HR, 27 RBI and 18 SB in 56 games this season at Triple-A Nashville. He currently ranks among International League leaders in runs (2nd, 49), OBP (2nd, .447), hits (T3rd, 69), batting average (4th, .338) and walks (T5th, 39).

Lara, who was tabbed by Baseball America as the best defensive outfielder in the organization entering 2025 and 2026, earned a Gold Glove Award last season as one of the top three defensive outfielders in Minor League Baseball. He was selected by Baseball America as the best defensive outfielder in the Carolina League following the 2023 season and in the Midwest League after the 2024 season as voted on by league managers.

Last season at Double-A Biloxi, Lara led the Southern League in games (136), at-bats (513), runs (79), doubles (32) and walks (86) while ranking second in SB (44) and tied for fourth in hits (132).
