And you have been very consistent since you managed the Padres in 2015 and the Dodgers from 2016 onward, for 11 consecutive seasons. You have a remarkable lifetime record of 992 wins and 603 losses.
You have won five championships and three World Series titles. It’s no wonder you are the highest-paid manager, earning $8.1 million annually through 2029. And you’re only 54 years old.
You were a good outfielder and a remarkable baserunner, playing for five teams: the Indians, Dodgers, Red Sox, Padres, and Giants.
You have an interesting and powerful heritage, the blood of an African American and a Japanese woman, and you were born in Okinawa, Japan.
I admire you, Dave, because you realized very early on that instead of managing against other teams, you have to manage against your own players. That’s what kept me at the helm of the Dodgers from 1954 to 1976, for 23 years; and I left with a record of 2,040-1,613.
