A good friend of Latino Sports and a passionate supporter of Roberto Clemente’s legacy— as well as an early advocate for retiring Clemente’s iconic No. 21—Michael Benjamin has been visiting our site throughout our 21 Days of Clemente series, which concluded on December 31st of 2025.

We sincerely appreciate Michael’s thoughtful comments and are pleased to share them with our readers, as we believe many others also found value in our extensive 21 Days of Clemente coverage and the conversations it inspired.

From Michael Benjamin

I love Latino Sports for its 21 Days of Clemente. Keeping his memory alive is important to many people of goodwill. He lost his life in service to victims of the earthquake in Nicaragua. He wanted to use his celebrity to ensure that the aid he collected was delivered to survivors and not siphoned off by the kleptocratic Somoza regime. He was a hero to me. For 365 days, I celebrate his memory and commitment to others with a tribute over my front door. I leave my home daily thinking of Roberto Clemente, the man, humanitarian, and athlete.
