Friday to Remember: It has now been 100 years since the death of Christy Mathewson, considered one of the greatest pitchers in Major League Baseball history. He died at just 45 years old, after a five-year battle with tuberculosis. His death occurred on October 7, 1925, the very day the Pirates and Senators opened the World Series, which Pittsburgh won in seven games.
Mathewson’s record, in 17 seasons, 16 with the Giants: 373-188, 2.13, with 79 shutouts; and he still had time to save 30 games.

FOR THE 2026 ROSTER
** The White Sox, who finished last in their Central Division this year with a 60-102 record, are trying to rebuild their roster with young players from their minor league affiliates and imports from Japan… ** They have already signed Japanese infielder Munetaka Murakami, who will turn 26 on February 2nd. A left-handed power hitter, he has hit as many as 56 home runs in a single season in his country… ** And in his eight-year career, he has a .273 batting average , with 265 home runs, 722 RBIs, and 76 stolen bases in 119 games… ** He will be paid $34 million for two seasons, plus another million each time he wins the MVP award… ** And yesterday, Thursday, they were in talks with agents for two other Japanese players, whose names they declined to reveal… ** The White Sox have also added three valuable young players from their minor league affiliates to the roster : Colson Montgomery, Kyle Teel and Chase Meidroth… ** All three have Major League experience: Montgomery, an infielder and left-handed hitter, spent half a season with the big league club this year; Teel, a catcher, 23, also spent three months with the White Sox; and Meidroth, an infielder and right-handed hitter, 24, spent the entire season with Chicago…

Viernes para Recordar: Hace ahora 100 años de la muerte de Christy Mathewson, considerado uno de los mejores lanzadores en la historia de las Grandes Ligas. Murió apenas a los 45 años, después de cinco años de luchar contra la tuberculosis. Su muerte ocurrió el siete de octubre de 1925, justo el día cuando Piratas y Senadores inauguraban la Serie Mundial, que ganó Pittsburgh en siete juegos.
El record de Mathewson, en 17 temporadas, 16 con los Gigantes: 373-188, 2.13, con 79 blanquedas; y aún le quedó tiempo para salvar 30 juegos.

**Los Medias Blancas, que llegaron últimos este año en su División Central, con 60-102, tratan de reformar el róster con jóvenes de sus sucursales e importados de Japón… ** Ya firmaron al nipón, Munetaka Murakami, infielder, quien llegará a sus 26 años de edad el dos de febrero, bateador zurdo de poder, quien ha sacado en su país hasta 56 jonrones en una temporada… **Y en su carrera, de ocho años, dejó promedio al bate de 273, con 265 jonrones, 722 impulsadas y 76 bases robadas en 119 salidas… **Le van a pagar 34 millones de dólares por dos temporadas, más otro millón cada vez que sea El Más Valioso… ** Y ayer jueves, conversaban con agentes de otros dos japonses,de los cuales no quisieron revelar los nombres… **Los Patiblancos han integrado al róster también a tres valiosos muchachos de sus sucursales: Colson Montgómery, Kyle Teel y Chase Meidroth… ** Los tres con experiencia de Grandes Ligas: Montgómery, infielder, bateador zurdo, estuvo con el equipo grande media campaña este año; Teel, quien es receptor, de 23 años, también estuvo tres meses con los Medias Blancas; y Meidroth, infielder, bateador derecho, 24 años se mantuvo toda la campaña de este año con Chicago…
