SAN DIEGO, CA — A strength of San Diego’s all season, the Padres had horses one by one come out of their bullpen Wednesday night against the Cubs at Petco Park.
Yet there were two that stood out from the rest.
Up 1-0 in the best of three National League Wild Card Series and looking to finish off Chicago for good in Game 2 to punch their ticket to the NLDS, Adrián Morejón, San Diego’s best reliever not named Mason Miller this season, did some punching of his own by going two scoreless innings to keep the lane rolling.

Bradgley Rodríguez, 22, of Petare, Venezuela, did earlier in the game too with a pair of strikeouts across 1.2 shutout frames, matching his Cuban teammate’s intensity also but from the right side.
“One of the great things about our bullpen is they can go multiple innings,” said Padres manager Craig Stammen. “Bradgley, Adrián both can pick up more than one inning, get out of a jam and get another inning. It’s what makes them so good.”
A 4-1 Padres lead ended up the eventual final score on Miller later closing the game and series out.

A successful evening of work for the Latin duo out the ‘pen, partying with teammates and coaches late into the night as San Diego will now meet the Brewers in the NLDS beginning this Saturday, October 3rd.
Salas History
Rodriguez was caught by Ethan Salas, 20, of Puerto Rican and Venezuelan heritage, who made history Wednesday night by becoming the youngest catcher in the postseason at 20 years and 120 days old. Salas only had two at-bats before he was pinch hit for by Miguel Andjuar in the sixth, but he did still manage to make an impact with a sacrifice fly that made it 2-0 Padres in the second.
“He’s a very talented player, and then probably his character and maturity that go with it,” Stammen said. “You add talent, you add character, and it adds up to a pretty nice little combo.”
