BRONX, NY — Yesterday before the Yankees’ first game of their three game inter-league series versus the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Yankees organization hosted a press conference across the street on the sidewalk of 161st street, adjacent to Heritage Park to announce the official viewing of a Roberto Clemente photographic exhibit. The exhibit organized by GFR Media and Puerto Rico’s daily, El Nuevo Dia had been traveling around the country and finally made its way to the borough of the Bronx which has one of the largest Puerto Rican communities in the United States.

Present at the press conference were front office personnel from the Yankees, elected officials, NYC Parks Department representatives, local community leaders, some youths from the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club, Roberto Clemente Jr., Pirates Manager, Dereck Shelton and El Nuevo Dia’s journalist in New York, Luis Ferrer.
The exhibit is made up of photographs found in the archives of El Nuevo Dia that were never published. Many of them were from their photographer Luis Ramos who spent the day with Clemente before and after his famous three thousand hit day.

I have been a Roberto Clemente buff, collecting hundreds of items for our store, the Latino Sports Clubhouse that we had once had and for my personal collection and I must say that I was impressed with these one-of-a-kind photographs that I had never seen.

I highly recommend that anyone who has any interest on the great Roberto Clemente to take the time to come and see this exhibit. The exhibit will run until early November — feel free to stop by and see Clemente’s rare exhibit in person!
