Old Timers’ Day with 2009 World Series Champions

BRONX, NY — On Saturday afternoon during the New York Yankees’ 76th Old Timers’ Day, the players who once donned the pinstripes, and now, looked upon as Yankee Legends, were honored and celebrated at the stadium in front of a crowd of 40,438.

Throughout the special lead-up to the middle game of the Rockies-Yankees three-game weekend series, where New York fell 9-2, the Yankees commemorated the 15th anniversary of the 2009 World Series championship team. 

Special guests in attendance included 2009 World Series winning manager Joe Girardi, Hall of Famers Derek Jeter, and Mariano Rivera, 2009 World Series MVP Hideki Matsui, Yankees’ all-time franchise strikeout leader Andy Pettitte, five-time Yankees World Series champion Jorge Posada, three-time All-Star CC Sabathia, Alex Rodriguez, Nick Swisher, Johnny Damon and A.J. Burnett.

In addition, those also in attendance were five-time Yankees All-Star Willie Randolph, Joe Torre, Orlando “El Duque” Hernández, Bucky Dent, Tino Martinez, David Cone, John Flaherty, Jeff Nelson, and the widows of Thurman Munson, Bobby Murcer, and Billy Martin — Diana Munson, Kay Murcer, and Jill Martin.

    Interesting that they invited ARod? If he was surprised to be invited, so were many fans. No matter what, the Yankees did the right thing.
