Cabo Rojo, PR: The newest trend among many of Puerto Rico’s top musicians of the música urbana genre is to acquire or have partnerships in several of Puerto Rico’s sports team. The latest is Ozuna who is interested in acquiring the Indios de Mayagüez basketball team. The team could use a new facelift, or something as it has one of the worst records of the Puerto Rican Basketball Federation. They have not won a championship since 2012 so any change is welcome by the local fans.
If the deal is finalized, Ozuna would join Bad Bunny who owns the Cangrejeros de Santurce and Anuel AA who owns the Capitanes de Arecibo. This could bring back an excitement to Puerto Rico’s basketball leagues which have always been a major form of sports entertainment in Puerto Rico in my opinion surpassing baseball in many towns.
Daddy Yankee who is a baseball fanatic and might have had a baseball career instead of his musical one if not for getting shot in his knee as a teenager, is also a minority partner of the Cangrejeros de Santurce baseball team.
Baseball star catcher, Javier Molina is also in the mix as co-owner of the Vaqueros de Bayamón baseball team.
