Bronx, NY: Seth Lugo & Pete Alonso received their prestigious 2019 LatinoMVP awards on Wednesday, the last home game of this shortened Covid-19 season. Under normal conditions and a regular season we would have organized a Hispanic Heritage Month event for both of these Mets players. Unfortunately, the best we could do was to have the awards delivered and hand them over to the Media Relations crew for them to give to the players. They both were very happy to have received their awards. Both were very appreciative and humbled for the recognition. They both stated that they have a special place in their homes that the awards would hang.
We want to thank the Mets Media Relations staff for helping to get the awards to the players and sending the pictures below. We also want to thank Major League Baseball for its sponsorship and in particular, Patrick Courtney the Chief Communications Officer of Major League Baseball for his support and cooperation in helping to get all the eight awards to the winners.
Unfortunately, we were not able to personally deliver the awards and give the players the attention they deserve, however every player who has received his award has been appreciative of being recognized for their achievements. We know that was a great feeling especially in this Covid-19 shortened season that has players playing in empty stadiums. The smiles of every player who has received an award says it all.
