Nonetheless, Jackie pitched exhibition until she was married at 23, promoted as “the woman who struck out Ruth and Gehrig.”

La Respuesta…: Antes de la temporada de 1931, la adolescente de 17 años, Jackie Mitchell, firmó con los Yankees para jugar con el equipo Doble A.
Poco después, el dos de abril de ese año, el equipo grande visitó a tal club para jugar de exhibición. Cuando abrían el noveno inning, perdían los Yankees, 4-2 y Babe Ruth al bate, por lo que llamaron a Jackie para relevar. En cuenta de 1-2, el slugger no encontró la curva de la muchacha, y quedó strikeout con horrible swing. El siguiente fue Lou Gehrig, igualmente strikeout, pero en tres lanzamientos.
