Pero hasta última hora, en las oficinas del estadio de Júpiter, Florida, seguían lejos de un arreglo. Si amanecen pasado mañana lunes sin el contrato firmado, Major League Baseball (MLB) anulará los juegos inaugurales y los demás que sean necesarios.
El comisionado, Rob Manfred, dijo…: “Está comprobado que los entrenamientos no deben realizarse en menos de un mes”.
El comienzo del spring training ha sido pospuesto del miércoles 16 de febrero al sábado cinco de marzo.
Cada día sin juegos de la temporada costaría a la Asociación de Peloteros, 20 millones 500 mil dólares, ¡diariamente! Y a MLB 37 millones. O sea, perderían cerca de mil 800 millones en conjunto, cada mes.

Tampoco llegan a un acuerdo en las reglamentaciones acerca del draft de junio y los bonos a pagarse.
Y MLB propone aumentar los equipos clasificados para la postemporada, a lo que se oponen los jugadores, como presión para lograr otras ventajas.
En cuanto al sueldo mínimo, las discusiones van desde 640 mil dólares, ofrecidos por MLB, hasta 996 mil exigidos por la Asociación. Actualmente es de 570 mil 500.
La sensación es que ambos bandos quieren lograr más y más poder en las relaciones laborales. Y cuando se habla de poder, se refiere uno a multimillones de dólares.
